It's a Rough Job but Someone's Gotta Do It!

As you may or may not know, I work as the sales manager for a charter sailboat in Annapolis, MD. Today was the start of the 19th annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race. One of our schooners, Schooner Woodwind, competes in the race every year. So we go out on her "sister" Woodwind II to watch the start of the race.

Today was a lovely day, sunny and unseasonably warm (mid 70's). We ran the gammut of wind conditions. From a nice slight breeze, to dead calm, to quite windy all in a matter of 3 hours.
We had a wonderful time watching the 50+ schooners from different parts of the world jockey for position. Here are some of my pictures of the start:

How absolutely fabulous. I once had the wheel of Gretel, one of Australia's early entries into the America's Cup up in the lovely calm Witsundays. Oh it felt good.
With bilateral hip and knee replacements sailing is too potentially dangerous a place for a bad fall so have missed that wonderful feel of being out in the sea breeze.

Great pics, Beth! Yes, I'm the one who goes to Chestertown for Downrigging Weekend, and am looking forward to it this year. You going to be there?
