A Good Sunday!

Well I managed to catch up on my sleep last night. I fell asleep a little before 8pm and woke up at 8 this morning LOL. Guess I was sleepy....

So I went off to get my nails done. Since Friday is Independence Day I decided to go patriotic with my nails. I am very happy with how they turned out and I think my 15 year old daughter is a little jealous that they are so blue.....LOL

After I got home I decided to finish up a UFO handquilting project that is now a doll quilt for a swap and is being mailed off tomorrow. I'm still hoping to load a customer quilt tonight before bed. All in all not a bad day :)

I'm very happy to have my quilting mojo back :)

Waikiki Stars Finished!!!

And just in the nick of time.....I put the final stitches in the binding at 12:45pm today (we left for the party at 1pm). I'm very happy with the way it turned out and the couple that I gave it to just loves it!!!

This is the Boxy Stars quilt that I started last Sunday at Bonnie's workshop in VA. I finished the top on Wednesday and loaded it onto the frame before bed. On Thursday night I loaded the bobbins. Then I threaded the machine and went to test my bobbin tension on my Towa gauge and discovered that the tension screw had fallen out. I couldn't find it much for quilting it that night. Yesterday at lunch I went to my dealer and bought a new bobbin case and was all set to quilt when I got home from work. I finished the quilting and had the binding and label attached by midnight and then stayed up til 3am working on the handstitching of the binding, went to bed and got up at 9am to finish it before the party. Gotta love a quilt that is finished in less than a week after cutting the fabrics :)

This quilt also used 10 yards of fabric!!! YAY!!!! 5 yards on the top and 5 yards for the backing and binding. I quilted a loopy meander using Essential varigated "Primary" on top and in the bobbin. I find this thread to be very linty but it worked well for this quilt. I also tried the Fairfield 80/20 batting for the first time and was pleased with the results. Since the couple is moving to Hawaii on Tuesday and will be there for 3 years the lighter weight quilt will be nice.

And here are some pictures of the happy couple playing around with some of the going away gifts they received today :)

An Afternoon with Bonnie Hunter!!!

I spent the afternoon in Woodbridge VA attending the Boxy Stars workshop with Bonnie Hunter. We had a wonderful afternoon and got alot accomplished! I'm doing my top using Hawaiian prints and am hoping to have it finished before next weekend as a gift. I'll keep you all posted! Here's some pics from this afternoon with Bonnie. I can't wait until October when she comes to my guild in PA!!!!

So I managed to bust 5 yards of stash so far on this top WAHOOOO!!!

Lost Another Friend Today.....

Last night I went into the sewing room to cut some fabric and noticed that Rico didn't come out for his food. I found him curled up on his bed and he wouldn't get up. So hubby came in and carried him into our room. He was very weak and couldn't stand up on his own. We got him to drink a little water but he would not eat anything. This morning hubby went to the store and bought some kitten milk hoping that would help him get some nutrients but he wasn't interested. While I was in Virginia this afternoon hubby called to let me know that Rico was gone. We don't know what happened to him, the only thing we can figure out is that he was lonely without his roomie Jade and just gave up. He was almost 14 years old and was hubby's "Little Man". He is burried in the back yard right outside our bedroom slider so he will always be close to us. I will really miss my "neckwarmer" this winter. Sleep well little man.....

Maryland Coasters!

Well one of my friends who I work with is moving to Hawaii in a couple weeks and we are having a going away party for her tomorrow night on the boat. As part of the party everyone is bringing their favorite "Maryland" things to put in a basket for them to take to Hawaii with them. I will be giving them a bottle of my favorite Maryland wine - Boordy Sangria - a tin of "Old Bay" seasoning (a Maryland staple), 2 wine glasses that have blue crabs painted on them and a set of coasters in Maryland colors. Here's a picture of the coasters I made. The back of each coaster is sailboat fabric.

Goodbye Jadey-Bear!

Today was a rough day for my family. I had to take our oldest cat to the vet to be put to sleep. She had a horrible tumor and at almost 19 years old the veterinarian said that it was time to say goodbye. My husband has had her since she was very young and this has been a hard time for him, but he knows that it was for the best. Sleep well sweet Jade!
